In the early 1990’s, fresh out of college, Roland Russell and Frank Natale teamed up in the local GovTech space. They provided consulting and back office services to several Massachusetts municipalities. Roland and Frank assisted local governments in creating and printing their tax bills, assisting in tax takings and in performing transaction processing and data entry services. Like their municipal clients, they both worked with old, outdated DOS-based, flat file software systems which required a tremendous amount of duplicate data entry and manual processing.
“There has to be an easier way! Computers should make less work, not more work!”
Their municipal clients would often remark, “There has to be an easier way! Computers should make less work, not more work!”
Roland and Frank decided there was indeed a better way. Government offices were critically behind private business in how they were using technology.
On a leap of faith and with MasterCard and Visa as their backers they each bought a new Personal Computer. They were thrilled to find that these computers were some of the first computers that came preloaded with Windows – and with modern relational databases!
In 1996, Rob Natale and Ted Cormier joined Roland and Frank. VADAR Systems was born in their “home office – the living room.” VADAR’s mission is the same today as it was 30 years ago - to help municipalities modernize their financial systems and automate tasks with easy to use, sophisticated software built for the users by the users. All 4 original owners and founders are still active employees.
Today, VADAR is still well known for sitting with our clients, listening to your problems, and developing software solutions that help create order out of chaos. We are proud to still partner with our first clients – and look to help other municipalities for years to come.
